Aluminum Forms
Aluminum is a soft, durable, accommodating metal. Being much lighter than steel, it permits me to build larger sculptures with less effort. Aluminum does not rust. It glows in the moonlight and dazzles in sunshine. Beneath layers of oxidation, it takes on a soft natural quality.
All objects, natural or man-made, bone, shell, stone, tree, machine, or any mundane object can provide forms that excite an artist's imagination. I've had a conch shell in my studio for many years. The outer shell has been broken away to reveal its inner spiral. Its influence on the aluminum sculpture "Narwhal" seems obvious.
Though each form makes its own statement, there is an element of likeness that attests to a common source.
